Redruth School Commemorates VE Day

Posted on: 08/05/2020

Happy VE day to everyone associated with our school and community. I am proudly wearing my father's 2nd World War medals in my best attempt at 1940's attire. He joined up as an 18 year old in 1939 from Cornwall. After spending some years as part of a Lancaster air crew as a gunner, his eyesight started failing and he joined the Africa Corp, finishing the war in Italy near Sorrento. On VE Day he and a group of allied soldiers spent the day drinking wine at a contessa's house. At the end of the war he was given £10 and a suit in which he married my mum.

I'm sure everyone has some connection to those who gave their all 75 years ago and I hope you are able to celebrate a little today in memory.
