Royal Visit at Geothermal Project

Posted on: 29/04/2019

Two Redruth School students, Oskar and Ebony, were delighted to be selected to meet the Princess Royal on her recent visit to Cornwall. The Geothermal project at United Downs was one of the sites the Princess visted. With the help of European funding, the
project aims to mine heat from the rocks and produce clean renewable electricity.

A delighted Oskar said, “We went to the Hot Rocks Geothermal Project to meet Princess Anne. At the event we had to sit at a table and explain the Raspberry Shake software to her. The whole thing was very exciting and I enjoyed it very much (especially as we were given some jam and cream scones).”
Lucy Cotton, Project Engineer at the Geothermal Project and Professor Iain Stewart, UNESCO Chair in Geoscience and Society, bought a Raspberry Shake device to Redruth School last November. The seismometer, monitors (minor) tremors, earthquakes or other vibrations in the earth. We have installed this in school and continue to monitor the results.
