Ten Tors Challenge

Posted on: 19/05/2025

Redruth School CCF took on the Ten Tors Challenge on the weekend of 9-11 May. They have been training for this adventure since November and had learned navigation, camp craft and, most importantly, teamwork.

Our team were on the 35 mile challenge beginning on Saturday at the army camp on the northern tip of the moor and got off to a confident start. They stormed all the way to Higher White Tor on the southern end of the area – just one stop before their target overnight camp. Undaunted, they set off on the stroke of 6am on Sunday putting in a massive effort to get to their first check-in point in just under three and a half hours – most teams were taking around 4 hours to complete this section. They were now back on track but suffered a navigation error which left them 1km short of their next time check and they had to come in after conquering 8 tors.

No worthwhile achievement is easy and this team worked incredibly hard to successfully navigate wild and desolate moorland with good planning, excellent spirit, and a map and compass. We are so proud of the amazing feat they accomplished and we look forward to next year’s training with relish.
