Rugby County Champions

Posted on: 04/02/2022

Firstly congratulations to our Year 9 boys, winning the County under 14 cup!
Final score 20-15 against a very strong and physical Truro School team. In the backs, Olly B, Will P and Josh S-J had strong games, along with Fergus B and Tom H working hard in the forwards but MOTM match goes to Ollie D for his outstanding carrying in attack and hard tackling
in defence. Well done boys!

Following on, our Year 10s also got to celebrate a successful season by winning the U15 Cornwall Rugby cup final. They played superbly against Newquay Treviglas.
The game was played at Truro Rugby club. Redruth established an early lead with Archie C scoring the first try, Connor C the second with Dylan S-C converting both and then Noah C scoring a third. The last 10 minutes of the first half every player put their bodies on the line and defended the best they had for the season. Treviglas pinned us in our own 22 and we valiantly held up two tries. That was a pivotal phase of the game. With 5 substitutions made at half time, the players managed the game well with Sam B and Dylan S-C making superb decisions. The forwards and backs quickly found their attacking rhythm again and rewarded with another 5 points from Connor C. Final score 26 - 0!

To complete the celebration, last but not least, congratulations to our Year 11 rugby team who beat Truro School 31-12 in the county final last week. The game was played under lights at Hayle RFC, a fantastic venue for the final.  A large crowd composed of families, friends and staff enjoyed a superb game of rugby. The evening proved to be a fitting final game for the boys, where they once again showed what an outstanding group they are.

Mr Martin spoke after the game, where alongside congratulating both sets of players, he also dedicated the win to Mr Terry Pryor. Mr Pryor coached the team in Year 7 along with Mr Bartlett, and has been a huge influence on the boys. Although Mr Pryor is sadly no longer with us, he would have been so proud of the young men they have become. His legacy will continue in the form of the Terry Pryor Trust. Thank you to everyone who came to the final, and for making it such a special evening.
