Year 11 GCSEs 2021 Information

Assessment Evidence

For the 2021 GCSE assessments, all schools will be generating centre assessed grades. These grades are based on assessment evidence that is commensurate with the standards at which students are performing. The grades produced at Redruth School have been arrived at in a fair and objective way, free from bias and with rigorous sampling and moderation. Vocational subjects have been graded on their controlled coursework. Detailed below is the assessment evidence used for each subject. In the small number of cases where students have limited evidence, replacement evidence may have been used.

Special Considerations

In a normal examination year, schools apply to examination boards for special consideration for students who have been affected by adverse circumstances beyond their control at the time of an assessment. This year, schools have responsibility for applying these special considerations to student’s GCSE results. The adverse circumstances that would be eligible for special considerations include the below:

  • Temporary illness or injury
  • Bereavement
  • Domestic crisis

Parents who believe their son/daughter meets one or more of these criteria should contact the school via with a brief description of the circumstances concerned, by 9am on Monday 7 June. These applications for special considerations will be considered by a committee of the senior leadership team. If approved, these considerations could lead to student marks increasing between 1% and 5%. The size of the award given will vary dependent on the nature and severity of the circumstances.

Results Day

GCSE Results will be available to students on Thursday 12 August 2021. Mr Bonds and Miss Goodman will both be available on the day to support students in processing their GCSE results, as well as the implications of these results for their post-16 choices.

On results day, all students will have a right to appeal their results. Details of how to begin the appeal process will be confirmed in the Summer Term, pending government guidance.
