Year 7 Geography students have been asking themselves are we a “blue planet or plastic planet?” and “how is plastic harming our oceans?” Researching into plastic pollution in our oceans our Year 7s created newspaper articles using the facts they had uncovered.

• Did you know 1 million plastic bottles are bought every minute around the globe?
• Or that by 2050 there will be more plastic than fish in our oceans?

FACT- A plastic bottle takes 450 years to break down!

Students also thought hard about how to complete this sentence and made an achievable Plastic Pledge for themselves to put into practice. “Geography is the subject which holds the key to our future, we can make a difference if we……”

Rose, a Year 7 student decided there was no time like the present and got stuck in right away, combining her school work with helping her local community as she took a walk along her local beach collecting plastics and litter along the way.
