REDFEST!

Dear Parents and Carers
I hope you are well.
This will be my final letter to you as Headteacher of Redruth. My ambition over 12 years ago was to have a school of which we can all be proud with students who have great opportunities, enjoy their learning and reach their potential and beyond. Also for them, their families and the community to talk with pride about Redruth School in both our own community and across Cornwall. I do think we have gone a long way in achieving this, and I am incredibly grateful for your support along the way. This term alone, we have returned to key events and activities such as presentation evenings, work experience, sports days, trips, school production – all of which, alongside a great set of teachers inspiring young people, allows me to feel that school life, achievement and creating good citizens at Redruth is in good hands.
As the forecast is for further warm weather, students can continue to wear school PE kit for the remainder of the term; we would ask them to bring in a water bottle, which can be refilled at break times if needed. We will encourage students to make use of shaded areas and suncream throughout next week.
The last day of term will be Friday 22 July and school will finish at 12.40pm. I am delighted that we are once again able to host our traditional RedFest event, which I know is enjoyed thoroughly by all as a suitable end of year celebration. There will be food stalls, rides and various activities, some of which will need a small contribution, and I would suggest your son or daughter brings some pocket money. This will be a non-uniform day, and I would ask that despite the hot weather, students wear school-appropriate clothing. Money raised will go towards the Terry Pryor Trust, which is dedicated to supporting students without the financial means to participate in educational and sporting opportunities. Those entitled to free school meals will receive their lunch during the morning when we have an extended break, and all bus companies have been informed of the school’s finish time. Students using the service buses will need to catch their bus from an alternative bus stop, such as the one on Station Hill.
Arrangements for next term are as follows:
Finally, the school is fortunate to have the services of Alex Kettlewell as Acting Headteacher in September; we have worked together for some years and I know she shares my passion and commitment to this community, and I wish her and the staff at the school every success.
Can I wish you all an enjoyable, safe and hopefully sunny summer, and thank you for your continued support of our great school.
Kind regards
Craig Martin
